Alamo Promise to UTSA Bold Promise - University of Texas at San Antonio

Promise-to-Promise

AlamoPROMISE is a program that covers the full cost of tuition and required fees for new graduates from participating high schools seeking an academic certificate or associate degree at one of the five Alamo Colleges.

Promise to Promise allows eligible students to start at any of the five Alamo Colleges and then transfer to UTSA to complete a four-year degree while having educational costs covered at both institutions.

The Promise-to-Promise program encourages Alamo Colleges students who meet certain eligibility criteria to transfer to UTSA and have tuition andmandatoryfees covered for up to four consecutive fall and spring semesters through the UTSA Bold Promise program.

AlamoPROMISE to UTSA Bold Promise

The AlamoPROMISE to UTSA Bold Promise is a tuition promise program that aims to make college more accessible and affordable to AlamoPROMISE students who transfer to UTSA and meet certain eligibility criteria. Qualifying students will have their tuition and mandatory fees covered 100% for four fall and spring semesters within a 2-year time period, as long as students maintain eligibility.

How does it work?

Students do not have to apply separately for this program. Bold Promise is automatically awarded to qualified Texas residents who meet the program qualifications. Tuitionand mandatory fees are covered by scholarships, grants and tuition exemptions from federal, state and institutional funds.

** Students who meet all eligibility criteria will be covered by Bold Promise up to the available unmet financial need. For an explanation of unmet need please refer to our FAQs section**

Students will not see a fund called “Bold Promise” on their financial aid offer, but a combination of funding awarded that covers tuition and mandatory fees. Note: Bold Promise does not cover books, housing or meal plan. However, students will have other aid offered to help with these expenses.

How do I qualify?

Students must have successfully completed the AlamoPROMISE Program and meet the following qualifications:

  • Have a family income up to $70,000*

  • Submit a FAFSA/TASFA by May 1 (admitted for Fall) or November 1 (admitted for Spring)

  • Minimum GPA of 3.2 with no course repeats, or minimum GPA of 3.25 regardless of course repeats

  • Complete an Associate’s Degree and enroll at UTSA the following fall or spring semester

  • Enroll at UTSA full-time (12 hours or more) for fall or spring semester

Note: Students in an online only program are ineligible for Bold Promise.
*Students must have financial need. Family income information will be determined from the FAFSA/TASFA.

Continuing Eligibility

To continue to receive the Bold Promise, students must meet the following eligibility qualifications.

  • Submit a FAFSA or TASFA by January 15 each year
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA
  • Enroll full-time (12 credit hours or more) each fall and spring semester to complete a minimum of 24 hours
  • Remain in good academic standing

UTSA Distinguished Transfer Scholarship

Fall and spring transfer applicants who are transferring at least 24 semester credit hours of academic coursework (dual credit and work in progress not included) at the time of admission will be given automatic consideration based on academic credit. This scholarship is valued up to $6,000 (1,500 each semester) for up to four consecutive semesters (not including summers) if renewal eligibility is maintained. The value is awarded on a competitive basis, while funding is still available.

Deadline to be considered for the Distinguished Transfer Scholarship:

  • Fall transfers must be admitted by May 1
  • Spring transfers must be admitted by October 15

Students pursuing this degree at UTSA must successfully complete each of the Gateway Courses with a grade of “C” or better in no more than two attempts. A student who is unable to successfully complete these courses within two attempts, including dropping a course with a grade of “W” or taking an equivalent course at another institution (including any colleges of the Alamo Colleges District), will not be allowed to select this major at UTSA.

UTSA BSW Practice Sequence Application Requirements

Students who have successfully completed at least 42 hours of coursework, including the majority of their Texas Core Curriculum, may apply for formal admission to the BSW Upper Level Practice Sequence. Only students formally admitted to the BSW Practice Sequence will be eligible to continue on to take upper-division Social Work Core Curriculum courses.

To be formally admitted to the BSW Practice Sequence, students must, at minimum, meet the following criteria:

  • Complete at least 42 semester credit hours of coursework, including the majority of the Texas Core Curriculum
  • Attend a BSW Program Information Session
  • Submit a completed application for admission to the UTSA BSW program
  • Have an overall cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
  • CompleteSWK 1013 with a “C-” or better
  • CompleteSWK 2013 with a “C-” or better either prior to admission or during the student’s first semester in the BSW Program
  • CompleteSTA1053Basic StatisticsBasic Statisticswith a “C-” or better
  • Submit two Professional or Academic References
  • Submit a Résumé
  • Submit a 2-4-page Application Essay

Applications will be evaluated by the BSW Committee using a standard evaluation rubric to determine admission status. Students are notified of their admissions decision via email from the BSW Program Director or their designee. A social work major not accepted to the formal BSW Practice Sequence may apply a second time at the next available opportunity. If they are not accepted after the second attempt, they will be required to change their major.

Texas Transfer Framework: Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) Information

Field of Study Curriculum (FOSC) is a set of courses that fulfill lower-division (freshman and sophom*ore) requirements for a specific major/degree plan in addition to the core curriculum. FOSCs are guaranteed to transfer to any public college or university in Texas.

The Fields of Study now part of Texas Direct. What is Texas Direct? Texas Direct is the state’s effort to articulate seamless degree pathways between two- and four-year institutions.

Students who complete the Texas Core Curriculum and Field of Study at any public two-year institution automatically qualify to receive an associate degree - the Texas Direct Transfer Degree. They are also qualified to transfer their courses as a block applied directly to their selected major.
