Frankincense Face Cream Recipe - Organic Palace Queen (1)I love using frankincense essential oil on my face. That’s because it gives my skin a natural glow. For me, this aromatic resin evens out my skin tone, so it looks as I’m wearing a light coat of foundation.

Frankincense, apparently, has a long history of being used cosmetically. Although I have no way of confirming this, apparently frankincense was one of Cleopatra’s favorite beauty remedies. Now, I can see why.

The word has definitely gotten out about frankincense essential oil. I’ve been using it on my face for years. It has a reputation for fighting wrinkles. As a middle-aged woman, I’m definitely interested in natural beauty solutions that can potentially keep my skin looking younger. Also, I’ve discovered the wonders of plant-based cosmetics. This way, you can avoid the nasties that are added to chemical beauty products, including parabens. Some reserarchers fear these estrogen-like compounds can increase our risk of breast cancer.

Although you can buy all natural face creams that contain frankincense, it’s also easy to make your own. That’s what I do. Once you get used to using essential oils, it starts to become fun. It’s so easy make your own face cream.

How to Make Frankincense Face Cream

Frankincense is an excellent choice for a DIY face cream. You can also mix it up a little, and add another aromatic, such as lavender essential oil. That’s what I like to do, for variety.

It’s also a good practice to combine essential oils. That’s because aromatherapists believe using two or more oils together creates a synergy. So a combination of frankincense and lavender essential oil may be more powerful than either aromatic used alone. Lavender is another natural remedy that’s considered good for skin problems. It’s often recommended for fighting redness and irritation.

Recipe for Frankincense Face Cream

You can make frankincense face cream with a really easy body butter recipe. Body butter only requires two ingredients, coconut oil and natural organic shea butter. Shea butter is very hard and dense. But the coconut oil softens it up. You can also add other emollients, such as argan oil. But these are optional.

Body butter is the best. It’s so luxurious. I made it for the first time last year and it was so easy. Before I did this, I had seen beautiful pictures of body butter on Pinterest, and I figured making it was complicted. But it’s not.

Right now, frankincense essential oil is one of the plant-based remedies I use. One thing I’ve noticed about anything I use on my face, or my hair, for that matter. So I need to rotate them. Frankincense is definitely part of the mix. Usually, I add it to a little avocado oil before putting it on my skin. But I decided it would also be a good idea to use it in a body butter.

The brand of frankincense oil I now own is sold by Plant Therapy. This is a company I know and trust. I’ve ordered a number of its oils, and plan to order many more in the future. The quality is excellent, and the products are not sold through a multilevel marketing chain. Below you can see the two of the types of frankincense oil it sells. I own the frankincense serrata on the left. But I’m sure either would be fine to use in a face cream recipe.

Put these slightly hardened oils in a mixing bowl. Use an electric egg beater to whip them for 11 to 12 minutes. At the end of this time, the consistency should resemble whipped egg whites. Just before you finish mixing add 10 drops of frankincense essential oil. You can also add a couple of drops of lavender essential oil.

This face cream can be stored in a clean and covered glass jar. Keep it away from heat.

Important update: Whipping it for 11 to 12 minutes worked for me in a cold dry climate. But everyone is dealing with different climate conditions. I would suggest testing this for your climate. Start with a very small batch and see if shorter shipping time 7 to 8 minutes will work best for your environmental conditions.
