My boys and I love Taco Bell.
Aside from loading up on 5 layer burritos and chalupas, we have to get the classic Baja Blast every time we go.
It’s so good!
The lemon lime flavor and slushiness of it is the perfect combination of sweet and refreshing.
It’s definitely the perfect way to top off a spicy meal.
What is a Baja Blast?
The Baja Blast is a Mountain Dew based soft drink that’s served ice cold.
It’s got a signature blue color, a big shot of caffeine from the Mountain Dew and loads of lemon lime flavor.
Ingredients
To make this at home you’ll need:
Powerade- Blue Powerade gives this drink its perfect ocean blue color. While you could substitute another blue sports drink, the taste may vary slightly.
Mountain Dew- You can’t make a Mountain Dew based beverage without the soda.
Lemon lime soda- Use your favorite be it Sprite, 7up or another kind.
For best results, use blue Powerade over any other kind of sports drink.
Use your favorite lemon-lime soda.
Make them extra fancy with lemon and lime wedges and maybe some fun paper straws.
This recipe easily doubles, triples or more if you are making them for a party.
Make an adult version by spiking each glass with an ounce or two of citrus flavored vodka.
Can This Be Made Into A Baja Blast Freeze?
While and ice cold glass of Taco Bell’s baja blast hits the spot on a hot day, it’s nothing compared to enjoying a baja blast freeze.
This recipe is easy to transform into the refreshing slushie dessert sold at fast food franchises.
Simply add all of the ingredients to a large ziplocking gallon sized freezer bag. Squeeze out the excess air, and ensure the bag is 100% sealed. Lay it flat in the freezer, and let it chill for 3-4 hours or until mostly frozen.
Squeeze the bag, breaking up any large chunks, until the ingredients are evenly combined and it’s reached a slushie-like consistency.
Pour it into cold glasses, and enjoy!

Some sources say Baja Blast is regular Mountain Dew spiked with lime. The official word comes from PepsiCo, which says it is a "cult favorite" with a "legendary Tropical Lime flavor," which would explain the tropical-beach-ideation-producing "Baja" in the drink's title.
(It's also the second-longest peninsula on planet Earth, but we digress.) The Baja title invokes surfer vibes, and the lime part makes it a summery refresher. Our final answer is that Baja Blast is hint of lime Mtn Dew, which definitely pairs well with T-Bell's zingy cuisine. Still, that descriptor feels reductive.
Grab a pint glass and fill it with ice. Add the peach schnapps, coconut rum, then fill to the top with Baja Blast. Gently stir with a bar spoon. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!
Like original Mountain Dew, Baja Blast is full of citrus, carbonation, and caffeination. Taco Bell Baja Blast switches up the Mountain Dew formula with a kick of tropical lime flavor that matches the chain's beach atmosphere (via QSR).
On today's episode of we've Got Food at home, tap into my version of the Taco Bell Baja Blast. Easy peasy. Just grab some crushed ice, some cool blue Gatorade, a little bit of that trailer park tequila, and some Sprite. Add some Jim Beam peach and you got Baja Blast at home.
Leading up to 2004, PepsiCo conducted extensive research to develop a beverage with a taste and color to complement Taco Bell food products. The resulting product was named Baja Blast, a light blue-green colored, tropical lime-flavored variety of the soft drink.
Baja Blast has been sold in stores before, but typically only for a limited time and in limited quantities. The 2024 release will include both regular and a zero sugar version of Baja Blast that will be available in cans and bottles nationwide.
As part of its celebration of the 20th “Bajaversary,” Mtn Dew is launching Baja Laguna Lemonade and Baja Point Break Punch. The yellow-colored Laguna Lemonade flavor, to be more specific, is mango lemonade, and the reddish-pink Point Break Punch is based on a classic fruit punch flavor.
Mountain Dew Baja Blast, the popular beverage once sold exclusively at Taco Bell, will be sold in stores nationwide this month and, for the first time, will be available throughout all of 2024.
If you've never tasted this particularly delicious beverage—or even if you have—you might be wondering, “What flavor is Baja Blast?” In short, it is classic Mtn Dew mixed with lime flavor.
The flavor was first made available in 2004. Created for, and exclusively sold at Taco Bell locations, it was a collaboration between the company and Mountain Dew owners PepsiCo. One of the first instances of a restaurant offering an exclusive soda beverage, it was created to increase sales of fountain soda.
Baja Blast is a Franchise Exclusive Mountain Dew flavor available since August 2004 only at Taco Bell restaurants. While originating as a Taco Bell exclusive flavor, it then received many retail summer releases until January 2024, when it turned into a permanent flavor for its 20th "Bajaversary" and beyond.
The best liquor to mix with Mountain Dew is rum, tequila or gin. All three go well in citrus based beverages & will tone down the overly sweet & acidic flavor. Mix-ins could include a twist of lime, a wedge of pineapple or even maraschino cherries.
