Whatever you have planned for Christmas morning, we’re sure to have a Yuletide breakfast idea to suit…
In a hurry? Try chocolate croissants that you can simply bung in the oven and are ready in minutes, or fruit muffins you can make in advance so no need to prep on the day.
Fancy something sweet? Our Nutella tear and share Christmas tree will go down a treat! Or opt for something fruity, such as blueberry and apple pancakes, or baked apples on toast (don’t forget the cinnamon for a real festive flavour!)
Want to at least start the day off healthy? Try spinach-packed Alpine eggs, or a fruity breakfast smoothie for a vitamin hit.
Feeling decadent? We’ve got plenty of options for you, from the classic eggs Benedict, to smoked salmon pancakes and of course, poached egg and avocado.
Want veggie and vegan options? We’ve got loads of savoury and sweet veggie Christmas breakfasts from eggs and avocados to pancakes and muffins. Vegans should check out our pimped up porridge recipes and nutty breakfast smoothie.
Top it all off with a glass of Bucks Fizz for the grown-ups, and perhaps some yummy hot chocolate for the kids. Add marshmallows to the hot chocolate to look like melting snowflakes – it’s Christmas after all!
Things to think about when planning your Christmas breakfast
Keep it light
OK, so Christmas is the one time of year where it’s totally acceptable to eat until you feel you might burst. But remember, there’s likely to be a massive Christmas dinner coming up later; not to mention all the chocolate, fruit, nuts and other nibbles that everyone will be munching throughout the day.
That’s why it’s a good idea to keep things light. Even if a full English is your idea of a perfect breakfast, Christmas Day might not be quite the right time; save it for Boxing Day instead!
Choose a super-simple recipe
Christmas morning can be a lovely chance for some quality family time, especially if you’ll be spending the rest of the day with wider friends and family. The last thing you want is to be slaving away in the kitchen while everyone else opens their stockings!
So although it may be tempting to cook up an impressive Bake-Off-Showstopper-worthy creation to kick the day off right, it’s usually best to keep things simple – not to mention avoid a load of washing-up before the day has even begun!
There’ll be so much going on that even a bowl of cereal or slice of toast might be enough. But if you want to make your Christmas breakfast special, things like chocolate croissants and French toast can be whipped up in a matter of minutes and still feel like a bit of a treat.
Think ahead
Do as much as you can on Christmas Eve, so you won’t be too rushed in the morning. Make a mix for pancakes or scones in advance and keep in the fridge overnight before cooking. Or whip up a smoothie that can sit in the fridge until everyone’s ready for breakfast.
Where will you eat?
If you’re going to be sitting around the breakfast table, your options are pretty much limitless. But if you’re planning to munch on your Christmas breakfast in bed, or while opening presents in front of the TV, you might want to opt for something that won’t make much mess.
If you’re going to be eating at a table, set it all up the night before. That way you’ll have time to add any special festive touches, including a Christmas tablecloth or breakfast crackers, and it’s one less thing to do on Christmas Day!
Key ingredients for a Christmas breakfast
Fancy coming up with your own Christmas breakfast creation? Here are the ingredients that crop up the most in our recipes, to inspire you:
- bread (essential for French toast)
- eggs (not just for poaching, boiling, scrambling and frying; they’re also an essential ingredient for pancakes and drop scones, alongside flour and milk)
- fruit (strawberries, blueberries, bananas, apples and oranges are all good options)
- cinnamon (makes virtually anything taste like Christmas)
- bacon and sausages (for those who think a meal isn’t complete without meat)
- smoked salmon (a classic Christmas treat)
- cream and sugar (hey, it’s Christmas!)
- ready-to-roll puff pastry (the ultimate cheat for super-quick croissants and pain au chocolat)
- veg (to add a bit of nutrition; mushrooms, tomatoes, spinach and avocado all work great for breakfast)
- chocolate (pieces or spread, for ultimate Christmas morning decadance)

Our music courses for babies and toddlers are a fun way for parents and children to connect and explore music together.
Taught by professional musicians and Early Years Music Specialists our progressive curriculum uses a variety of musical activities to lay a foundation for future musicality and to helping children to feel more secure and confident when coping with new experiences.
Singing and movement are always at the heart of every session. As repetition is very important to children at this stage, the classes have a familiar framework each week but will always include some new challenge. Daily routines such as nappy changing, bath time, meal times, waking, sleeping and even tidying up toys are more enjoyable if done through singing or playing musical instruments and dancing.

Shoppers can trial the supermarket’s new spring summer wine range in exchange for honest reviews
It might sound too good to be true but Aldi is recruiting shoppers to try its wine – for free.
The budget supermarket is known for selling quality wine at bargain prices, with a number of its tipples gaining gold, silver and bronze medals at prestigious wine awards.
And now the retailer is looking for shoppers to flex their wine-tasting muscles and let others know what they really think of its latest tipples.
- You risk losing Child Benefit if you don’t report these changes
- How to swerve Ring doorbell price hikes
- Tesco £4 Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream dupe smells ‘divine’
The supermarket has relaunched its Wine Club and is asking people to apply to trial its new spring summer range, which launches in store on 18 March.
Successful applicants will get three bottles from the range to test and review over an eight-week period.
All they need to do in exchange is post an honest review of the wine on their social media channels using the hashtag #AldiWineClub.
The downside? Only 30 people will be chosen – but you’ve got to be in it to win it, right? Here’s how to apply…
How to apply to be get free wine from Aldi
Aldi is looking for 30 reviewers who will be sent three bottles of wine as part go its Wine Club.
To apply, any budding tasters need to send an email to Aldiwineclub@clarioncomms.co.uk and include the below details:
- Full name
- Proof of age
- The name of your social media handles and the number of followers for each account
- 150 words explaining why you think you should be selected as part of Aldi’s Wine Club
- What your favourite Aldi wine is and why?
Entries are open now and you have until 4 March to apply. Winners will be contacted within seven days after this date.
Explaining why Aldi was launching the initiative, Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying, Aldi UK said: ‘We embrace the opportunity to gather feedback from our trusted shoppers.
‘It helps the buying team shape wine ranges into what they are – great tasting, award-winning, delivering on both quality and price. We look forward to welcoming the next thirty Aldi Wine Club members on board.’
Looking for some wine tasting tips?
If you want to get practicing your wine tasting at home, Aldi’s ‘Mistress of Wine’ Sam Cap*rn has the following tips, based on the five S’s.
1. See: ‘The colour will give an indication of the style of wine says Sam. ‘A deep red will suggest youth and a full-bodied wine, while a pale colour will propose it is lighter and juicier.’
2. Swirl: ‘Pour a small measure and swirl the glass anti-clockwise,’ Sam advises. ‘Swirling ensures a more intense aroma, as it releases what are called “volatile” aromatics.’
3. Sniff: ‘You don’t really taste wine, you smell wine – so this stage is important,’ says Sam. ‘Take short, sharp sniffs rather than breathing in deeply for a long time.’
4. Sip: According to Sam, this is where the magic happens! ‘The aromas in your mouth go up your nose and the wine onto your taste buds, allowing you to appreciate the delicious flavours in the glass.’
5. Savour: This tip is probably our favourite. ‘Now relax, savour those deep flavours that are developing in your mouth and enjoy!’

Join us for an adventure with outdoor nature play, crafts and stories for pre-school aged children on our beautiful nature reserve.
About the event
Join our friendly Nature Tots staff and volunteers to explore the nature reserve and enjoy wildlife themed activities suitable for children aged 18 months to 4 years. We have a different theme each month, eg mini-beasts, dinosaurs or weather, and every session includes wildlife exploration, sensory play, stories and crafts. A lovely way to spend quality time in the great outdoors with your child.
Please note activities will take place outdoors – dress for the weather! We have an indoor space available in case of severe weather, but we aim to be outdoors as much as possible.
You only need to book a place for your child, not for the accompanying adult.
We are committed to keeping our visitors, staff and volunteers safe. Please DO NOT attend if you or your child are unwell, or testing positive for an infectious illness, such as COVID-19. Your consideration is hugely appreciated.
